This is a Universal baby chronograph manufactured in the late 1930s, featuring the highly rare Caliber 290, housed in a stainless steel square design. Among the three major baby chronograph makers (Universal, Valjoux, and Geneva Sport), this Universal model is the rarest.
Early models were based on the Valjoux 69 movement, while later ones used Universal's in-house movements. This particular piece is an early model, equipped with the Valjoux 69-based Caliber 290, making it an exceptionally valuable example.
The case is a rare square design, even among baby chronographs, with dimensions of 26mm in width, 35mm lug-to-lug, and a 24mm strap width. It is further distinguished by its oversized "jumbo" case and an original black gilt dial, produced using the gilt method, which adds to its rarity and desirability.
Additionally, it bears the Valjoux 69-based Caliber 290, and it is a scarce double-signed model in collaboration with TURLER. This remarkable timepiece is a standout collector’s item.
