A very rare late 1930s early waterproof chronograph marked with the name 'Berthoud,' a co-founder of Universal, in a 38mm case. This super rare piece features an early snap-back waterproof case, with the case back protruding slightly from the mid-case— a design occasionally seen in Universal, Longines, and Omega models of the same period. Produced only for a short time from around 1938 until 1940, before screw-back waterproof cases were introduced. The 38mm waterproof case with large pushers provides a robust feel, and the three-color scale snail dial, detailed and beautifully compact, reflects the era’s style with an exceptional vintage appeal. It is powered by the iconic Caliber 385, based on Universal's renowned chronograph movement Cal. 285.
