Manufactured in the late 1930s, this is a rare "Stop Second Minute Recorder" timepiece from Longines, equipped with the esteemed Caliber 12.68z and featuring a distinctive black gilt dial. In addition to the standard stop second model with a 60-second counter, this watch is fitted with the scarce Caliber 12.68z which incorporates a 60-minute counter. By setting the hour and minute hands precisely at midnight and activating the chronograph, it is possible to measure time for up to 12 hours.
Beyond its stop second function, where the second hand halts upon a shallow press of the button, this watch also possesses a simplified flyback function. A deep press of the button resets the chronograph. During an era when various manufacturers were experimenting with chronograph designs, Longines showcased its unique creativity with this remarkable piece.
The black gilt dial, exclusive to the four-hand model, presents a mechanical charm that is emblematic of its era. It retains a beautiful gloss throughout, while the concave bezel reminiscent of Patek Philippe's Ref. 130 maintains its distinctive shape, showcasing a well-preserved state.
